Overview
NCA substitutes aluminum for part of the cobalt, giving better cost and thermal stability than NCM at the same nickel content, and has long been used in cylindrical cells and premium EVs. Aluminum improves structural stability but places higher demands on sintering and surface treatment.
- Ni 80%, Al 5%
- Capacity 190–200 mAh/g
- Suited to high-energy cylindrical cells
Technical data
| Item | Typical value | Control range |
|---|---|---|
| Ni : Co : Al | 8 : 1.5 : 0.5 | ±0.02 |
| Specific capacity / mAh·g⁻¹ | 190–200 | ≥188 |
| First-cycle efficiency / % | 86–89 | ≥85 |
| Compaction density / g·cm⁻³ | 3.6–3.8 | 3.5–3.9 |
| D50 / µm | 10–13 | 9–14 |
| Residual alkali / % max | 0.03 | 0.04 |
| Moisture / % max | 0.02 | 0.03 |
| Magnetic impurities / ppm max | 0.3 | 0.5 |
NCA is extremely moisture-sensitive; low-dew-point transfer is recommended throughout.
